POLICE ALERTED WHEN A HAND IS SPOTTED HANGING FROM TAXI BOOT

According to a recent story in Taxi Cab News, Five tourists from mainland China who tried to save money in taxi fares during a trip to Taiwan sparked a police alert over a possible kidnapping when a motorist spotted one of them in the boot of a taxi. The five who were visiting relatives in Taiwan, had not wanted to take two taxis and to save money persuaded the driver to let one of them travel in the boot of the taxi. But another motorist saw a hand sticking out of the boot of the taxi on a highway and, suspecting a kidnapping, called police. The passenger had been keeping the boot open for ventilation and had his hand hanging from the boot . The driver was fined for breaching traffic regulations. No action was taken against the tourists.
When hearing about this story, Dan Fosker of Quotax, London Taxi Insurance Services chuckled and said "While this is amusing, it is also very dangerous, and I can't imagine any of London's Taxi drivers risking their own livelihood and the safety of their passengers by following suit – or at least we hope they don't!".
